Tips to get the most out of your business travel

People who travel for a living or those who have to do a lot of travelling in their job or business know the ins and outs of travel to get the most comfortable seat, perks, upgrades and savings from an airline or hotel. A few tips that will help the frequent business traveler make the most of their travelling time.

1. Be a frequent-flier. The free ticket given when enough miles are logged is not the only reason or even the best reason to have elite frequent-flyer status. Elite status fliers get many other perks that make flying easier. They get a private reservations phone number they can use if flights get canceled, they are never bumped from a flight, they get priority for upgrades into first class, and they get dedicated check-in and much more. Flying business class is another way to get better service, and there are discount business class fares online.

2. There are also membership clubs in many hotels. It is worth joining one and staying with it. It will give award points each time a member stays in the hotel that will give perks such as free local calls, free internet access, quick check-in and check-out and many other benefits. Look for corporate rates that can be accessed on a weekday with a business card for up to 10 percent to 20 percent discounts. Ask about a room on the executive floor. The perks from having a room on the executive floor may outweigh the slightly higher cost of the room.

3. To avoid the crowds, avoid flying on Thursday and Friday and evening flights. Try to fly in the morning or early afternoon. This will give a better chance to catch another flight in the afternoon if the earlier flight is cancelled. Monday and Tuesday are the least crowded days to fly.

4. For business travelers who need to frequently flight long haul flights it is good to check the type of aircraft scheduled for their particular flight. Legroom, in-seat power-port locations and seat reclining are a few of the things that will make the trip more comfortable. It is a good idea to check flight information and departure time and day often to know if the aircraft has been changed and a less desirable seat assigned.

5. Buy an adapter that will work in the sockets of several different countries as well as the power socket on airplanes. With this gadget there will be no problem keeping the laptop, camera, cell phone or shaver battery always charged.
